Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri Reconciliation

Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri Reconciliation

Location: Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District, North East Region

Background

The Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri district has experienced recurring inter-ethnic conflicts between the Bimoba and Konkomba communities, resulting in loss of life, displacement, and destruction of property. The conflicts are rooted in historical land disputes and political competition.

Activities

  • Conducted conflict analysis and stakeholder mapping
  • Facilitated 6 community dialogue sessions with 400+ participants
  • Organised a joint reconciliation ceremony incorporating rituals from both traditions
  • Established a bi-ethnic peace committee for ongoing conflict monitoring

Outcomes

The reconciliation process resulted in a formal peace agreement signed by the paramount chiefs of both communities. A joint land management committee was established, and the two communities have since collaborated on shared infrastructure projects including a market and a health post.
